Placement and Orientation!

I have a placement! I didn't think I would be able to accept Corscience's offer, since they don't have the money for an intern this summer, but last week I went in to talk to the program coordinator, Peggy. She really wanted me to take the placement, and assured me that since CDS had promised a paid internship, that they would make sure I had enough money to live on, hopefully with the help of a German department scholarship and maybe one or two other scholarships. So we accepted the offer, and I will be starting work in Germany on May 11. (Only 5 weeks away!)

Now there is so much to do...in addition to completing scholarship apps I now have to book a flight, look into housing, start getting everything together. I'll only have one week between my last exam and my flight, and during that time I need to make sure the apartment is in order for Olivia to move in and finish up everything I didn't have time for during the crazy last weeks of school.

The nice thing is that I actually know a girl, Yuri, who interned with the same company through CDS last summer, so hopefully she can help me out with some of the preparation, like pointing me in the direction of housing, forming a final budget, etc.

Mostly I am just so excited! We had our Ann Arbor-side orientation on Thursday, and talking about everything, getting to Germany and culture shock and packing just made everything start to feel tangible. In 5 weeks I will be in Germany, and not coming home for 3 months. It is wonderful and terrifying. I'm so glad I know a few of the kids going with CDS this summer, and I'm hoping a lot of them choose to do blogs (any of you CDS guys reading this...hint hint!!). I just think that it will be really nice throughout the summer to have that connection to other students who are going through the same thing.

I really can't wait, I know all the craziness and work will be worth it when I am on that plane to Germany. Until next time!
